📋 Team Registration & Classification
How do I register my team with USSSA?
Register at legacy.usssa.com. Create an account, add your team, and select Fastpitch as your sport. Your State Director will assign your initial classification before your first event.
What is the difference between Class A, B, and C?
USSSA uses a competitive classification system: Class C is for beginner/first-year teams, Class B is intermediate competitive level, and Class A is the highest competitive level. Classification is assigned by your State Director based on performance history and experience.
How do I request a classification change?
Contact your State Director to request a reclassification (for example, from B to C for a first-year team, or up to A after a strong season). Do not remove your team from any registered tournaments while waiting — your spot will be held.
What class should a brand-new first-year team be?
First-year teams with no prior USSSA history are generally started at Class C. Contact your State Director if you believe a different starting classification is appropriate for your team.
🤼 Rosters, Players & Guest Play
Can a player guest play for a team in a younger age group or lower class?
No. USSSA rules do not allow a player to play down. A player rostered on a 14U team cannot guest play for a 12U team, and a player on a B-class team cannot play for a C-class team. The system will not allow it and there is no override.
Can a younger player guest play on an older age group team (playing up)?
Yes. Players may play up in age group as a guest player, as long as they remain on their home team’s active roster. The guest player addition must be in the same or higher age group per USSSA rules.
How do I add a guest player from another team?
In the USSSA system, navigate to your team’s roster, scroll to the guest player section, and find the player by name on their home team roster. The player stays on their home team — they are added as a guest only. Both teams must be in a compatible age group per USSSA rules.
How do I permanently transfer a player to my team?
The player must first be dropped from their current team’s roster. A parent or guardian should email the State Director with the transfer request. Once removed from the old roster, the player can be added to your active roster. The State Director will receive an auto-generated approval email from USSSA to confirm the addition.
Can a player with “Pending” status play in a tournament?
Yes. As long as the player appears on the USSSA online roster, they are eligible to participate whether their status shows as Pending or Approved.
Can a player be on two USSSA rosters at the same time?
A player can be on one primary roster and added as a guest on another team in the same or higher age group. They cannot hold two permanent active roster spots simultaneously.
🏆 State Tournaments & USSSA Points
How do teams qualify for Texas State tournaments?
Teams earn USSSA points by competing in sanctioned USSSA events throughout the season. Points determine eligibility and seeding for state-level competition. Contact your State Director for current qualifying requirements and point thresholds for your age group and class.
How does the USSSA points system work?
Points are earned based on your team’s placement in sanctioned USSSA tournaments — higher finishes earn more points. Points are tied to your team and organization. If managers are transferred or teams change organizations, point history may be affected. Contact your State Director immediately if you notice any discrepancies.
My team’s points are missing or incorrect. What do I do?
Contact your State Director as soon as possible. Points issues often result from organizational changes or manager transfers. Your State Director can investigate and work with USSSA national to resolve discrepancies.
🛡️ Insurance & Background Checks
What insurance does USSSA provide for registered teams?
USSSA provides liability insurance through Epic Brokers for all teams competing in sanctioned events. For policy questions, additional insureds, or insurance certificates, contact Epic Brokers directly at [email protected]. Your State Director does not handle insurance matters.
Do coaches need background checks?
Yes. All coaches and managers listed as team officials in USSSA are required to complete a background check. This is managed through the USSSA registration system when you add coaches or managers to your team account.
How do I add an additional insured to the USSSA insurance policy?
Contact Epic Brokers directly at [email protected] with the facility name and address. Your State Director does not manage insurance additions.
